Maria-Theresia-Strasse 11: Consulate of the State of Israel
In October 1948, Israel’s first diplomatic mission in Germany assumed its work in Munich. The consulate avoided contact with the German authorities of any kind and was only officially recognized by the Western Allies. Also after the founding of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Israeli Foreign Ministry remained opposed to diplomatic relations. The consulate was closed in June 1953 when the “Israel Mission” was established in Cologne, an Israeli trade delegation responsible for implementing a so-called reparation agreement.
