The Maisons
A Jewish Family from Munich
An exhibition in the Study Area at the Jewish Museum Munich
In 2009, the Jewish Museum Munich received the gift of a number of documents and pictures from the Maisons, a Jewish family from southern Germany, who lived in Munich from the second half of the 19th century onward. A family portrait from the Biedermeier period, a book of paintings by family members, a pastel drawing of Hugo von Habermann, and other exhibits illustrate the history of a Jewish family in Munich, which was marked by acculturation endeavors and the gaining and loss of legal equality.
