Sixteen artists, sixteen families, sixteen “family” photo albums
The artists who took are taking part in the exhibition have captured family relationships for posterity with the help of series of photographs. Some reconstruct a family; others invent one: wishes, memories, pain and joy. According to the artists, a photo as a work of art allows them to create a narrative about a whole range of healthy or longed for family relationships. Each of them embarks on a private journey and analyses the notion of the “family album” from a different perspective.

Sechzehn Künstler, sechzehn Familien, sechzehn "Alben". Jedes Album umfasst das Leben einer ganzen Familie. Vor den Augen des Betrachters entfaltet sich das Universum eines intimen, aus Sicht des Künstlers wahrgenommenen Familienlebens. Das Ganze ist eine visuell-anthropologische Reise mitten hinein in die Familie, den ersten Bezugspunkt unseres Daseins. Wie Schriftsteller, die eine Geschichte erzählen, breiten die Künstler eine Bilderzählung vor uns aus. Menschliche und ästhetische Bindungen, Anekdoten aus dem Familienleben, Ereignisse und Beziehungen: einige in einem eindringlichen Dokumentationsstil, andere eher im Sinne einer fiktionalen Darstellung. Die Publikation Family Files – Zeitgenössische Fotografie und Videokunst aus Israel bietet einen Einblick in die zeitgenössische israelische Fotografie und Videokunst aus Israel, die mit Bildern der persönlichen und der kollektiven Erinnerung Zwiesprache hält.
