Between 1945 and 1951, well over 100,000 Jews from EasternEurope passed through Munich on their emigration routes. Many then set off by ship from Italian or French ports on the Mediterranean, others left via ports in northern Germany, such as Bremerhaven. From 1947 onward, the first airplanes ntook off for Palestine, later Israel, from Munich-Riem Airport.
