Twelve Months—Twelve Names
50 Years Olympic Massacre Munich
December: MOSHE WEINBERG
50 years after the terrorist attack during the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich falls in 2022. To commemorate the twelve people killed, institutions in Munich and Fürstenfeldbruck are remembering a different victim, his life and fate, each month throughout the year.
In December the Jewish Museum Munich, the NS Documentation Centre Munich, the Centre for Jewish Studies at the Karl Franzens University Graz, the Graz Museum and the Jewish Museum Vienna will commemorate Moshe (Muni) Weinberg, the coach of the Israeli wrestling team during the 1972 Olympic Games in cooperation with artist Nina Prader.
"The Wrestlers" by Nina Prader applies the graphic novel medium as a commemoration method. It is a hand-bound artist book and interactive art work, a monument. This commemorative artist book is printed in German and English in collaboration with Lucky Punch Press and is based on interviews with researchers and witnesses, relating to Moshe (Muni) Weinberg’s life, the events of 1972 and commemorations since then.
In the Jewish Museum Munich and the Graz Museum, this is presented as part of the installation "Reading Ring" - a space for active commemoration. The installation will be opened at the Jewish Museum Munich on December 1, .2022 at 6 pm as part of a soft opening and presented at the Graz Museum on December 6, 2022 at 6 pm as part of an event. An accompanying brochure on Weinberg's family history was prepared by the Centre for Jewish Studies at the Karl Franzens University Graz. Together with Nina Prader, the NS Documentation Centre Munich is offering a mediation programme and the Jewish Museum Vienna an artist talk on December 12, 22022 at 18:45 p.m.
