Trade and business index card for Kalman Schwarzberg

Kalman Schwarzberg, born in Sędziszów, Poland, in 1915, had been working as a butcher in Będzin when he was deported to Auschwitz extermination camp in 1943.

After liberation he returned to Będzin but then decided to come to Munich in September 1945 with his wife Ida, née Nunberg, also a survivor of Auschwitz concentration camp, where they were recorded as DPs. Schwarzberg registered a wholesale meat business in Tumblingerstrasse in 1946. This was expanded to include a kosher butcher’s shop on Herzog-Wilhelm-Strasse and a snack bar, among other addresses. He and his family emigrated to America in 1952.
