Hirsch Aub – Portrait of a Rabbi
An exhibition in the Study Area at the Jewish Museum Munich
When Hirsch Aub became rabbi in Munich in 1826 an era began that was to last 45 years, during which he was to lead the religious community through turbulent times. Aub succeeded in keeping the community together while at the same time gaining and upholding the favor and acceptance of the authorities. A gift from the Jewish Museum New York – a large portrait of Hirsch Aub around 1850 – has provided the opportunity to remember Munich’s outstanding rabbi.
